$16.94 - $22.67 hourly $1,354.89 - $1,813.92 biweekly $2,935.59 - $3,930.16 monthly $35,227.09 - $47,161.92 annually The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has a current vacancy at Forensic Services - West. The incumbent will perform difficult technical work in processing photographs in a forensic photographic laboratory using forensic scientific applications and will develop, print, enlarge, and reduce color and black and white photographs. ***MUST BE ABLE TO PASS AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION*** Examples Of Duties: * Develops, prints, enlarges, and reduces color and black and white photographs using advanced photographic processing techniques of a quality to be used for forensic examinations. * Reproduces photographs of fingerprints to specific ratios for scientific examinations and entrance into an automated fingerprint system; operates, maintains, repairs, modifies, or builds photographic processing equipment; maintains, designs, and redesigns the photographic laboratory. * Applies advanced photographic processing techniques to compensate for the special applications of forensic photography; produces highly detailed oversized enlargements for photographic court displays. * Provides training, guidance, and direction in forensic photographic laboratory operations to staff within the Forensic Services Section; gives technical advice to others in complex forensic photographic applications; performs dodging, retouching, filtration, tonal and contrast control operations. * Performs dodging, retouching, filtration, tonal and contrast control operations; manage image and data files in computer databases. * Periodically takes high quality forensic photographs of physical evidence, injuries, and the results of laboratory examinations using various format cameras; prints black and white photographs of graphic and explicit crime scenes or physical injuries to avoid overly prejudicial court displays. * Testifies in court as an expert witness in photography. * Labels and catalogs negatives; receives, logs, and processes photographic evidence and maintains a chain-of-possession. * Maintains records and files of the forensic photographic laboratory operation; orders and maintains an inventory of photographic supplies. Typical Qualifications: Experience: One year of experience in a photographic laboratory developing and printing color and black and white photographic films and negatives. OR Education: 12 semester or 18 quarter units of college level coursework in photography or a related field. Knowledge of: procedures and techniques of developing and processing exposed film; the types and varieties of photographic films, paper, and chemicals; capabilities and limitations of various types of reproduction equipment; computer graphic environments and applications; digital photography, digital cameras, and digital data management; forensic photography and the corresponding photographic processing techniques. Ability to: Operate, adjust, clean, and maintain photographic related equipment; improvise and resolve technical problems as they relate to forensic photography; periodically train others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, and persons in other agencies in the criminal justice system.
