Finance Specialist

The L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center is the nation's largest organization serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. It operates with an annual budget of $43 million, a staff exceeding 250 and more than 3,000 volunteers. Founded in 1971, the Gay and Lesbian Center provides the widest array of social services available anywhere in the LGBT community. Some of our programs include : HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention with a full service clinic and pharmacy, Youth Services including a transitional living facility, Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services, Legal Services, Anti-Violence programs, Family Services, programs for the Senior LGBT community, HIV & STD testing and prevention, a Cyber Center and Cultural Arts programming including live theater. 



Position:         Finance Specialist

Program:       Finance

Reports to:     Controller

Salary:            DOE

Status:             100%, Full time

Probation:     180 days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist the  Accounts Payable Manager including:

1)       Matching (purchases orders, receiving documents and invoices), batching (invoices), coding (invoices), data entry and posting to General Ledger

2)       Facilitation of vendor and internal customer contact in a professional, timely and results oriented manner and manages vendor inquiries regarding invoicing, payment scheduling, etc.

3)       Research on payments, minimization of late fees/penalties, prepares accounts payable aging schedules

4)       Scheduling of  invoices for payment

5)       Processing/approval of manual checks

6)       Preparation of  month end accounts payable accruals

7)       Re-class of credit card charges.

 

General Accounting Functions

1)       Prepare and process all bank deposits

2)       Input all cash receipts to the Accounts Receivable and Bank modules.

3)       Perform various account analyses and reconciliation functions including the cash and petty cash accounts, ALC receivable, mortgage and capital lease accounts.

4)       Prepare balance sheet schedules monthly and for the year end audit .

5)       Perform various other account functions as needed including data collection for ongoing audits

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1)       Assist the Controller as needed including preparation of packages for meetings

2)       Handle monthly petty cash checkbooks for all departments up through reconciliation

3)       Prepare departmental requisitions in Workplace and work orders in Track-It

4)       Manage departmental record retention and storage

5)       Perform other duties as assigned

6)       Compose and type correspondence and other such material as needed

7)       Perform filing and other general office duties

8)       Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings as needed

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

1)       Working Knowledge of IBM compatible computers including varied windows software including database, Great Plains/Dynamics accounting system and MS Office 2007 a plus

2)       One-four years accounting experience

3)       Thorough knowledge of all general accounting functions

4)       Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

5)       Strong organizational skills

6)       Detail oriented and able to follow directions

Ability to work efficiently in a multi-cultural environment
