This newly created position will combine financial and accounting responsibilities with the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of business areas, including our IT, Corporate Real Estate, Internal Audit, Tax, Financial Reporting and Financial Services areas. A key responsibility of this position will be to serve as a subject matter expert on fixed asset accounting analysis and entries. Responsibilities will involve such areas as capitalization of IT systems and equipment, calculation and reporting of depreciation expense, assistance with financial statement and tax documentation, and the support of audit requests. These responsibilities will also require the ability to work closely with our IT and Real Estate areas to understand the Company's fixed assets from an operational perspective, and to ensure that our general ledger accurately captures these assets.A second key area of responsibility will involve supporting our monthly and annual financial statement close processes. These responsibilities will involve such areas as preparing balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and researching variances to budget, analyzing payroll and accounts payable data, assisting in compliance with cost allocation / intercompany transactions, and preparing journal entries. These responsibilities also require a considerable amount of document handling and retention to ensure compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements.A third key area of responsibility will require the ability to gain a strong user-level knowledge of our various internal Finance systems, particularly those related to Oracle and to database analysis (such as Microsoft Access and Excel). The ability to maximize these systems' capabilities will not only be needed for daily job functions, but will ultimately help enhance our current practices and to maximize accuracy and efficiency.Key Responsibilities Review monthly general ledger activity and prepare capitalization and depreciation entries needed for compliance with accounting and reporting requirements, particularly Sarbanes-Oxley and SOP 98-1 ('Accounting for Internally Developed Software') Develop a strong working knowledge of fixed asset related systems to maximize accuracy and efficiency of the area's accounting and reporting processes Prepare fixed asset related schedules for Statutory and Tax reporting requirements Partner with Cost and Expense Accounting team members to ensure compliance with DOI, IRS, GAAP, SAP, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements Partner with IT and Real Estate areas to develop an understanding of the Company's assets, especially those related to IT systems and equipment Key Requirements Proven aptitude and attention to detail in an accounting / finance discipline Proven ability to effectively use database and systems applications Proven ability to prepare accurate, well written, and properly formatted presentations Bachelor's degree with accounting coursework Length of desired work history is flexible based on experience and education Position Information Location:Â Boston, MA 02215 Job Category:Â Accounting/Finance/Insurance Reference Code:Â bcbs-00001632 Our commitment to building a diverse workplace is without question.
