Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the food service manager, the food service worker performs a variety of patient food service, dining room services, and dish room as well as other related tasks. The Food Service Worker prepares food items and assembles prepared foods for patient trays, deliver trays to dining room or patients units, work in the dish room and in pot and pan washing area as needed and serve foods in the cafeteria, clean cafeteria tables and service counter after meals. The Food Service Worker may participate in preparing tally sheets for hot and cold food production, coordinate patient menus according to meal service times and check special diet menus to ensure that patients have made proper food selections. Food Service Workers are expected to adhere to the facility and departmental policies and procedures and to follow proper sanitation, safety and infection control policies. This position does not provide direct patient care. This position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English and the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Formal education and previous food service work experience, or equivalent, is preferred. On-the-job training is provided. This position requires the willingness to perform a variety of assigned tasks; the ability to exercise some initiative in maintaining kitchen in a clean and orderly condition; ability to work well with others; ability to perform a variety of assigned tasks under supervision; and the ability to withstand heat while working around stoves and changes in temperature when going in and out of refrigerated or freezer areas.
