Genetics Counselor

Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is seeking one full time genetic counselor to become a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing both prenatal and pediatric genetic counseling services. The pediatric genetics team currently includes three clinical geneticists, one genetic counselor, one social worker, one genetics nurse, and two metabolic nutritionists. The prenatal team includes two clinical geneticists, one fetal interventionist/surgeon, five perinatologists (one of whom is also a geneticist), and a perinatal care manager. The position will be 50% pediatric and 50% prenatal with opportunities for specialty clinic participation. The genetic counselor will be responsible for assisting in the coordination of family centered care as a member of the genetics team. Duties will include obtaining medical and family history information, coordinating genetic and prenatal testing, discussing test results and diagnoses with patients and families, and coordinating care both within and outside of the department. Academic opportunities are also available, including supervision of students, community outreach, and other research and educational endeavors. Requirements: The ideal applicant will be driven and motivated, with strong communication and cooperative skills. Master's of Science or equivalent in genetic counseling from an accredited college. Experience is a plus, but new graduates will be considered. Applicants who are bilingual or willing to learn Spanish are encouraged to apply.
