Grants Consultant (1099 Position)
The L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center is the nation's largest organization serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. It operates with an annual budget of $43 million, a staff exceeding 250 and more than 3,000 volunteers. Founded in 1971, the Gay and Lesbian Center provides the widest array of social services available anywhere in the LGBT community. Some of our programs include : HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention with a full service clinic and pharmacy, Youth Services including a transitional living facility, Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services, Legal Services, Anti-Violence programs, Family Services, programs for the Senior LGBT community, HIV & STD testing and prevention, a Cyber Center and Cultural Arts programming including live theater.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Grants Consultant will work closely with the Controller and Grants Manager, and will be responsible for a wide variety of financial and accounting projects and tasks, including grants invoicing, collection, account analysis and account reconciliations, process evaluation and improvement, grants administration as needed, policy and procedure improvement, and General Ledger analysis and review.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Work closely with program directors, managers and staff to ensure smooth and accurate grant billing;
2) Prepare monthly grant billings, invoice funding sources and record revenue to G/L;
3) Align grant revenue reporting with general ledger;
4) Track, analyze and forecast grant revenue with recommendations to normalize cash flow stream from grants;
5) Assist in preparing monthly grant budget to actual variance reports and ad hoc reports as required;
6) Participate in monthly budget to actual variance meetings as required to learn process and facilitate resolution of grant invoicing issues;
7) Prepare Grant Receivable Roll forward and tie out to general ledger;
8) Proactively assist with grants collections;
9) Handle grant close-outs including cost reports etc;
10) Prepare account reconciliation for month end close and year - end audit including but not limited to grants receivable, bank reconciliations etc;
11) Provide support to Finance department and peers in the monthly general ledger closing process;
12) Facilitate grant fiscal audits and related fiscal and A-133 related monitoring;
13) Responsible for deferred revenue and research grants accounts including release of funds as earned;
14) Assist with budget modifications and maintain ongoing listing of budget modifications pending, in progress and submitted;
15) Contribute to revisions to Finance Policies & Procedures to improve all processes to achieve a timely and accurate monthly close, sound financial control and to provide superior management information;
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
1) BS/BA in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience;
2) Minimum of two years progressive experience in grant accounting and or management in a dynamic multi-service environment;
3) Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
4) Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
5) Self-starter willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary;
6) Proven inclination to implement successful solutions;
7) Proven focus on superior internal and external customer service;
8) Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
9) Strong computer skills and knowledge including automated accounting systems; word processing, spreadsheets etc; and
10) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with men and women of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
