Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 Conducts S.T.D. Testing involving the collection of blood and urine specimens.Conducts HIV Pre and Post Test CounselingConducts a pre-test risk assessment with clients to obtain risk history and demographic information for reporting purposes.Administers oral test designed to detect HIV anti-bodies following standardized directions;  Times test with stopwatch or timer.Processes sample in accordance with standard guidelines.Administers Health Education and Individual Risk Reduction Counseling Sessions.Conducts disclosure and post-disclosure counseling as needed and required.Assesses client referral needs and makes referrals as needed during the counseling sessions;  Documents all referrals made. Participation in AHF Meetings/Committees

Attends Testing Counselors Meeting.

Qualifications

 One year certificate from college or technical school;  or three to six months related experience and/or training;  or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Computer/Software Skills & Abilities

Should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

 Language Skills

 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

Basic Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

Intermediate Skills:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 Other Skills & Abilities/Qualifications

Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.

Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.

Must be primarily available to work on weekday evenings and weekends. Certificates, Licenses and RegistrationsCurrent  HIV Counselor Certification Training completion from Florida Dept of Health
