Health Care Analyst III - Position Summary



Responsible for leading and performing complex analyses supporting objectives and goals of a Managed Care Organization. Position requires demonstrated initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of project teams. Individual must exercise discretionary decision making and judgment related to project management, trouble-shooting, and adherence to strict deadlines.  Responsible for development, design, and implementation of analytic and reporting initiatives., as well as demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to lead project teams including less experienced analysts and business users. Significant elements of work require strong problem solving capabilities, ability to work independently, and aptitude in accurately interpreting and executing business user requirements. Performs tasks under minimal general supervision of supervisory or management staff.

Detailed Job Duties: 

1. Responsible for identifying business user requirements and developing analytic specifications through participation in team activities or project meetings with business users/customers.

 

2. Translates customer needs into project descriptions, technical system specifications, and development of project timelines for mid-to-large sized projects or ongoing initiatives.

 

3. Demonstrates proficient understanding of insurance and managed care principles necessary to support analyses and to provide actionable information used to support business decisions.

 

4. Demonstrates thorough understanding of DHP operations, capabilities, goals and strategies necessary to conduct analytic and reporting activity development and execution.

 

5. Demonstrates strong abilities to interpret data, identify trends, establish/utilize benchmark data, and present information to customers in clear, concise, and useful formats, including data visualization and interpretation of information.

 

6. Produces well-written analytic executive summaries appropriate for presentation to senior leadership and executive staff, including Board of Directors.

 

7. Develops, tests, and implements dashboard reporting to provide senior leadership and executive staff, as well as other internal and external DHP customers, with performance data and trend information in an easily accessible and readily understandable format.

 

8. Demonstrated experience with primary research techniques to facilitate effective analysis and profiling of data/information

 

9. Provides project leadership on assigned projects and or activities, including project management expertise for complex analytic projects involving cross-departmental/cross-divisional staff.

 

10. Mentors other analytic staff by providing explanations, information training, demonstrations, and answering questions.

 

11. Participates in enterprise-wide data management activities

 

Required Skills

Requires a technical, business or scientific Bachelors Degree with 5-7 years of related analytical experience, Masters’ degree in technical, business, or scientific field with 5-7 years of related analytical experience is preferred. Requires an ability to lead cross departmental and/or cross-divisional analytic or project teams. Successful candidates will have extensive query language experience with demonstrated ability to develop, test, and execute complex analytic processes.  Candidate must have experience and comfort in use of relational databases and be comfortable working with large data sets (e.g., 1-5 + million records).  Position requires ability to exercise discretionary decision making and judgment, as well as leadership of project teams. Must be able to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and deadlines. Good oral/written communication and organizational skills are required. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to team work and exceptional customer service. Valid driver's license and personal, reliable vehicle required for work related travel to fulfill job responsibilities.

Additional Required Skills



§ Analytic experience: including thorough understanding and extensive experience working with descriptive and inferential statistics, regression analysis and modeling, population sampling, and survey instrument development

§ Analytic experience: in clinical, health insurance, or clinical research setting is required. Must have strong knowledge and experience working with medical and pharmacy claims data and related coding schemas (i.e., ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, NDC)

§ Query language experience: experience with common statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS) is required; SAS or SQL programming experience is strongly preferred
