SUMMARY OF POSITION DESCRIPTION:
A professional position overseeing patient and community education and outreach programs of the MaineHealth Learning Resource Centers. Working under the general supervision of the Director of the Learning Resource Centers, the individual is responsible for the day-to-day activities in the Centers including: coordination, implementation and evaluation of health education and promotion services; one-on-one and group consultation and education for patients, families and community members; information and referrals to Center users; supervision of volunteers and consultants; and coordination of Center services and programs with health care providers, community groups, and others.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in health education, public health or a closely related field. Master's preferred.
2. Knowledge of and ability to use current theory in public health, education, psychology, social work, and related fields to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs.
3. Knowledge of relevant research and practice in medical care, health education, individual behavior change, public policy, and community health.
4. Knowledge of and ability to use a wide array of evaluative techniques, including both qualitative and quantitative methods.
5. Knowledge of and ability to use a wide array of behavioral and communication techniques, from individual one-on-one counseling to facilitation of large groups.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to respond to diverse needs from Center users, including patients and families in crisis.
7. Ability to write complex papers and reports, for a wide range of audiences.
8. Ability to use a wide variety of marketing and public relations techniques.
9. Ability to communicate in writing and orally to a wide variety of audiences, including physicians and other health care providers; extensive public speaking experience.
10. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, and to collaborate with teams of individuals in diverse settings.
