IRB Coordinator

Alvarado Hospital is a 306-bed acute care hospital that also operates the San Diego Rehabilitation Institute, which serves patients with either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation needs. Alvarado has more than 500 on-staff physicians, 1,000 employees and 400 volunteers who provide quality care to East County San Diego. Alvarado Hospital's programs include cardiac services, emergency medicine services, general surgical services, neuroscience, orthopedics, oncology, primary care, rehabilitation, sexual medicine, skull base surgery, sleep center, surgical weight reduction and vascular services.

 

 

Summary:

The IRB Coordinator is responsible for development, analysis, marketing and management of research at Alvarado Hospital.  The IRB Coordinator follows accepted practices and the policies and procedures of Alvarado Hospital and seeks assistance and support when necessary.  Assists in data collection, filing and preparation of documents and maintains accountability for own performance and functions delegated.  Practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of behavior, and maintains confidentially in all aspects of data collection and data entry in supporting research protocols. 

 

Key Responsibilities: Acts as the initial contact person for research requests at Alvarado Hospital Primary contact person for investigators and regulatory agencies Provides continued monitoring of current operations and financial impact of any approved studies being conducted on Alvarado Hospital patients Serves as the liaison between the outsourced IRB service at the hospital Ensures compliance with federal regulations, state laws and institutional policy.  Provides education to appropriate leaders and requesting physicians in the facility regarding human subject research Coordinates ongoing chart review and quality control reviews as requested Works closely with the investigators, researchers and their staff in conducting efficient and timely service Works in collaboration with business development to  promote the research capabilities of the facility Prepares and coordinates IRB meetings and meeting materials Maintains IRB database 

Requirements: Excellent interpersonal skills Attention to detail Knowledge of regulations governing human subjects research Previous experience as an IRB Coordinator required. Protection of Human Research Subject Certification required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
