Independent Living Specialist

Duties include but are not limited to:
Regular telephone contact providing Information & Referral services. Data entry for Information & Referral records in database. Responsible for assigned IL case service provision and required case record documentation. Coordinate/maintain disability services resources in agency library. Responsible for proactive community education / outreach presentations on agency services. Provide technical assistance on the ADA and disability rights to individuals and community groups as needed. Designing and staffing of information tables at health fairs and conferences. Participation in center activities / services as needed. Coordinate transportation for IL services / membership activities. Under the direction of the Executive Director, assist in developing, organizing independent living skills programs for DIAL consumers. Provide guidance / direction to Peer Counseling Groups including documentation of group service activity. Coordinate publication of agency newsletter and facilitate solicitation of newsletter advertisers. Other assignments / duties at the direction of the Executive Director. Nights and weekend assignments per agency needs.

Qualifications: 
Experience in working with persons with disabilities. College degree preferred. Knowledge of Human Services in Passaic & Essex Counties. Knowledge and support of the Independent Living Philosophy. Strong telephone skills Computer Skills. Ability to work independently. Research/journalism skills required. Good listening, communications and organizational skills. Positive, enthusiastic attitude a must, a team player.
