Information Systems & Technology Director - Radiation Oncology

Responsible for providing vision, planning, senior level technical advice and guidance on all information systems and technology within the Department of Radiation Oncology, including the HUP facility, the research laboratories and satellite facilities. Consult with users, management, vendors, and technicians to assess computing needs and system requirements. Direct the daily information systems and technology operations within the Department to include managing the IT staff, establishing priorities and maintaining reliable IT coverage. Evaluate the department’s technology use and needs and recommend improvements to hardware, systems and software upgrades. Stay abreast of advances in technology. Develop computer information resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery. Control operational budget and expenditures. Meet with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems. Provide IT strategic direction as the department implements proton therapy, an electronic medical record system and other new technologies. Degree Requirements and Minimum Experience Required: • BA in Computer Science or related field required • MA in Computer Sciences, or related field preferred. Skill Requirements: • Ten plus years of experience providing Clinical Information Systems support within a hospital environment; preferably within the Radiation Oncology or similar type department. • Familiarity with technical components supporting the Information Systems infrastructure for the Radiation Oncology department including Wide Area Network, Local Area Network, End User Devices and Interface Development and Support. • Vendor management skills. • Management in Clinical applications either in application support or implementation role. • Healthcare domain experience and advanced knowledge/experience with clinical systems applications. • Excellent Project Management skills and demonstrated experience • Experience with Project Management tools and methods • Strong customer service orientation and ability to follow through issues to resolution. • Detail oriented, strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills required. • Ability to analyze, diagnose, suggest and implement process changes. • Ability to interact with all levels of physician practice personnel to include: IT management staff, consulting staff, clinicians, clinical administrators, etc. • Knowledge of healthcare operations and data structures and the use of information system applications in the practicing healthcare environment required • Prior management of personnel experience and seasoned in developing and managing a high performing team. • Development and management of a departmental budget. • Communications skills: ability to work at a high level and make presentations to senior leadership in understandable language. • Knowledge base: in-depth knowledge in the computer field. • Writing skills: ability to write reports using correct English and a logical presentation of ideas. • Critical thinking: using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems. • Active listening: giving full attention to what people are saying. • Judgment: considering the costs and benefits of potential actions. • Negotiating skills: bringing appropriate parties together and reconciling differences. • Complex problem solving: identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. • Creativity: ability to think of unique solutions to problems that are creative yet practical and use the resources available. • Interpersonal relationships: ability to deal with staff and colleagues with respectfulness, integrity, honesty and humor.
