Instructional Design Specialist

This class is accountable for designing and developing effective teaching and assessment strategies in an electronic learning environment for the HSEC. This position is a Blackboard Technology Specialist focused on the management, support and strategic placement of the Blackboard Academic Suite with a focus on support of graduate medical education.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated expertise in developing instructional resources; Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, standard web technologies, languages and authoring tools, and graphic/multimedia development tools; Thorough knowledge and experience in instructional design and adult learning theories; Strong interpersonal and project management skills in order to motivate and encourage faculty to try new and different learning styles; Experience with distributive course management systems; Portfolio or online examples of completed projects

 

Experience and training:

Masters Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or other related degree with 2 years professional experience preferably in an academic setting which includes Blackboard, online learning environment and experience authoring course sites.  Blackboard technical support skills and knowledge of MS SQL database and server technologies (Apache/Tomcat/Java) is required.  Familiarity with database clustered environment is desirable. 

 

Examples of duties:

Management and support of systems's users, coordination and collaboration with other Blackboard Specialists, training of diverse users and the development and integration of diverse technologies as part of the strategic education mission and future vision of e-learning; schedule, develop and deliver support and training for faculty, residents, fellows and staff in the use of Blackboard as well as providing general assistance and consultation to faculty, graduate students and administrators in the creation of materials for use within Blackboard; guides faculty in the application of effective teaching and assessment strategies in a web-based learning environment. Works closely with faculty and other FITS team members to produce a variety of learning materials for use in the classroom, individual and group study. Designs and develops instructional web pages and online courses with the focus on usability. Builds templates and supports faculty in the creation and design of on-line instruction. Integrates technology in traditional courses and provides instructional technology support. Works one/one with and provides workshops for faculty in developing and applying instructional design principles to the online learning environment. Tracks trends in technology. Introduces and implements emerging educational technologies while assisting faculty with its development, assessment and evaluation. Provides management and support for electronic classrooms. Works cooperatively with other UCHC departments to provide appropriate curricular support. Performs other related duties.

 

FULL TIME EQUIVALENT MINIMUM SALARY:  $70,386
