Comprised of the Application Services Group, Enterprise Shared Services Group and the IT Business Services Group, UnitedHealth Group IT has over 7,000 internal and external resources across the globe, and offices in California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, South Carolina and Wisconsin.  LAN/WAN Data and Voice Engineer Job Description:Provide on-going service / support in a large enterprise network consisting of approximately 300 domestic sites and 50+ International sites.  The qualified candidate will be responsible for all aspects of data / voice networking support at these remote locations.  These duties will include the day to day monitoring and performance and tuning of the WAN functionality of these sites.  Additionally the qualified candidate act as tier 3 support for resolution of problems and will be utilized as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all network related activities.   Integration engineering responsibilities include the integration of new sites as a result of mergers and acquisitions. This activity would primarily consist of the conversion of newly acquired sites to the UHG Network standards.  This activity requires the candidate to coordinate circuit and hardware installs on newly acquired remote sites. The engineer would be working with PM staff to deploy UHG’s standard networking model to acquired sites. Tasks would involve coordination and delivery of IP addressing, technical refresh of hardware, circuit orders and delivery, hardware configuration, etc. Similar to the integration activity is new site construction. This involves the construction of new office locations as required, assistance with staff relocation and decommissioning of demised offices.  With a few exceptions, all functional changes at remote office locations are performed remotely by the site engineer. Primary Responsibilities: Analysis, design, testing, documentation, implementation/configuration and support of WAN / LAN / MAN and converged network technologies Analyze and recommend contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the enterprise, including but not limited to MPLS WAN in a dual carrier topology, QoS marking and policy mapping, core LAN switching, caching, and voice/data convergence Perform network architecture reviews and develop detailed engineering design and deployment plans Perform integration of new acquisitions into UHG’s enterprise network Provide 3rd level support for LAN / WAN / MAN infrastructure as required Optimize services to achieve enhancements in performance and availability while simultaneously achieving cost reductions Provide consulting and engineering services on projects requiring business to business networking Participate in a week-long on-call rotation (approximately 5 times per year) Qualifications: 4 + years of experience in WAN design, hands-on implementation, configuration and troubleshooting in a large (20 + site) enterprise network environment Demonstrated experience with Cisco switches and routers Experience with supporting and providing solutions in large networked environments Knowledge of Private Line, MPLS, Frame Relay, DWDM fiber, and ATM networking Experience with BGP, OSPF and VoIP preferred Strong TCP/IP, DNS administration and multi-protocol network experiences Experience with QoS, UNIX OS, and ability to script large changes desirable Proven analytic, research and consultative skills CCNA required, CCNP preferred, CCIE of value Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems Previous experience and support of Cisco products such routers and switches are a must,  hands on experience with ASA firewalls, IPS, IP Telephony, Wireless, etc. a plus Diversity creates a healthier atmosphere:  equal opportunity employer M/F/D/V. UnitedHealth Group is a drug-free workplace.  Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
