As part of the Telecare family, Cordilleras Mental Health Services is a licensed 68-bed mental health rehabilitation center in Redwood City. The center serves San Mateo County residents 18 and older with histories of mental illness and multiple episodes of acute psychiatric hospitalization. The goal of Cordilleras is to allow individuals who would otherwise be in a state hospital or an acute care setting to develop the skills and support needed to live independently in the community.



As part of a recent expansion, Cordilleras MHRC will house a Short Stay program. This new and exciting program will have 17 beds for clients who need short-term rehabilitation services. The average length of stay is between three days and three weeks. Cordilleras Short Stay serves individuals 18 years of age or older. At Short Stay, clients are responsible for taking part in their own recovery, and also for helping their peers recover. Clients may choose to learn more about their illness and how to manage it. Services include group and individual sessions with trained staff, covering issues such as symptom management, anger management, medication management, coping skills, as well as community living skills.



The Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides services related to the safe and appropriate administration of medical treatment (including medications) as prescribed by the physician.  The LVN/LPT provides documentation to the Treatment Team of response to treatment and notifies all parties of clinical changes or condition.

One (1) year of experience in psychiatric nursing in a skilled nursing facility or an acute hospital is preferred.  Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technician Program, and current licensure by the State of California are also required.  A valid CPR Certificate is also required.  Necessary skills include a demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment, knowledge of psychotropic medications and knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the delivery of mental health services in the State of California. Current knowledge of recovery philosophy and psychiatric rehabilitation strongly preferred. Applicant must be finger printed and receive clearance from Criminal Justice Department.
