Company: Children's Hospital Boston Location: US-MA-Boston Status: Full Time, Employee Job Category: Installation/Maintenance/Repair General SummaryUnder general supervision and following established standards, policies and procedures, installs, inspects, tests, repairs and replaces window air conditioning units and refrigeration equipment for air'conditioning hospital buildings, preserving food, making ice and cooling water. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Responds to routine and emergency service requests via on'line work order, radio dispatch or as assigned by Group Leader/Supervisor. Plans assigned work by examining detailed blueprints/drawings and project specifications, selecting and obtaining needed equipment and materials and determining appropriate sequence of tasks. 2. Installs and maintains refrigeration system piping, valves and fittings. Measures, cuts, bends and threads pipes and tubing and assembles and installs pipes, valves and fittings using pipe cutters, torches, wrenches and other related tools/equipment. Pressurizes and inspects piping/tubing for leaks, solders joints, repairs, adjusts and replaces valves and refills refrigerant as needed. 3. Installs and maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, fixtures and component parts. Disassembles devices as necessary and removes, adjusts, cleans, lubricates and/or replaces mechanical parts/equipment such as motors, compressors and filters. Inspects and calibrates refrigeration controls and thermostats in order to maintain required temperature and compression and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. 4. Maintains communication with other engineering department personnel in order to plan and coordinate work assignments and describe and refer problems/issues outside scope of authority/trade. Communicates with customer departments as needed to clarify job specifications and minimize any disruption of department services/operations. Minimum Knowledge and Skills required by the Job 1. Work requires a high school level of educational development and up to one year of basic technical training and one to two years experience. Three to four years of facilities experience preferred. 2. Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. Knowledge of building codes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. 3. Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.~mn~
