Local Compliance Officer
Saint Barnabas Health Care System is seeking a LOCAL COMPLIANCE OFFICER (LCO) to manage compliance activities at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, under the direction of the System’s Chief Compliance Officer. The LCO is responsible for achieving facility-specific and system-wide compliance objectives in the areas of compliance education, internal investigations, auditing and monitoring, corrective action and the overall effectiveness of the compliance program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Position Requirements: Candidate must have the following qualifications: - J.D. or advanced degree in a financial or allied health related field. - 5 years hospital-related healthcare experience utilizing advanced training - Experience managing compliance requirements of government and healthcare regulatory agencies - Working knowledge of o Health care compliance o Hospital management and operations o Medicare payor requirements o Clinical coding and reimbursement processes o Physician management o Health care finance - Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including proven ability to o Make effective formal written and oral presentations o Conduct rigorous investigation and analysis of complex health care, regulatory, financial and clinical issues and communicate findings and recommendations o Develop and implement communication strategies for all stakeholders including senior management, oversight agencies, staff, co-workers and supervisors. - Effective project management skills including proven ability to o Manage large volumes of written materials and electronic data o Produce high quality written documentation (e.g. memos and reports) and data analysis (e.g. Excel spreadsheets) o Independently manage complex processes with precision and efficiency o Formulate and implement effective action plans Accept direction and input from multiple sources including parties with conflicting and/or adverse interests - Proven ability to function independently and exercise judgment and leadership in accordance with objective legal and regulatory requirements, under complex and demanding circumstances. - Established demeanor and work habits consistent with professional-firm (e.g. law, accounting or health care consulting) training and background, together with at least 2 years of actual professional firm, health care senior management, or relevant government agency experience.
