MEDICAL ASSISTANT, PRE ADMISSION TESTING, 1ST SHIFT

The Pre-Admission Testing Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the medical staff and other providers in the examination and care of pre-operative patients.
Essential job Functions:
* Escorts patients to the rooms. Takes BP, P, Temp, weight and height. Obtains patient allergies, current list of medications and other pertinent medical history. Accurately documents data in legal health record and other designated Hospital records.
* Teaches and / or provides patient/family with pre-operative information and other information per the plan of care as directed by the provider or RN.
* Recognizes basic patient problems and refers the problem to the clinic RN or provider for investigation.
* Ensures adequate stock of supplies. Prepares, stocks and cleans examination rooms and equipment. Stocks and stores items appropriately.
* Assists the provider with clinic examinations and procedures as directed. Performs venipunctures, collects laboratory specimens and accurately completes appropriate lab slip.
* Gathers patient's information for clinical chart and accurately prepares patient chart for PAT appointment and surgery.
* Assists with telephone incoming calls by screening and directing appropriately.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program (Associate, Diploma or Certificate) required. Incumbents in the position prior to April, 2008 may substitute this educational requirement with the following statement - minimum of 2 years work experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
* Minimum of two (2) years work experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
* CPR required within introductory period.
* Ability to use office equipment including computer, printer, fax machine and telephone.
* Ability to perform simple procedures.
* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people under stressful conditions.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize properly.
* Good problem solving skills.
* Commitment to excellent customer service and communication skills.
