Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership to staff to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality in a vastly changing health care environment. Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professionalism, consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Iowa Health System. Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff and the management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development. Participates in establishing and preparing departmental goals, standards, procedures, and instructions, which contribute to the effectiveness of the department in accordance with organizational goals.
Facilitates orientation, inservice, on-the-job training and continuing education programming to meet identified staff development needs. Performs performance appraisals for staff within the department. Creates an environment for staff growth, development, productivity and satisfaction. Ensures completion of department monthly reports. Maintains knowledge of new developments in software and their applicability to the enterprise. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local laws or regulations. Effectively prepares and complies with voluntary accreditation as accepted by the healthcare organizations we serve. Recommends and schedules training sessions where needed to ensure quality support. Attends or appoints staff to attend user group meetings to communicate required changes and retrieve new information from vendors. Coordinates training opportunities with other network partners to contain costs where possible. Works jointly on project management for effective implementation of enterprise solutions. Provides project reports to management as needed. Ensures data element descriptions are consistent among enterprise partners and hospital departments to promote accurate data transfer and availability where needed. Make recommendations for efficient use of network and hospital resources to minimize duplication where possible. Applies current cost containment concepts. Actively participates in operational improvement efforts of Information Services. Maintains regular and consistent attendance at work. Adheres to all IHS Personnel policies and procedures, departmental policies and Safety guidelines. Behaves in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.
QualificationsMust have clinical department management experienceRequires previous experience in information systems. Demonstrates knowledge of patient care systems. Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of operating system components, job control language, file organizations, initialization procedures, and capacity planning. Requires highly developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout the Iowa Health System, its subsidiaries and affiliates. Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment is crucial. Understands computer system functionality, limitations, and architecture of supported applications. Possesses excellent writing and verbal communications skills. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures. Prefer RN or BSN with staff management experience in the clinical setting
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and or Computer Science. Equivalent education and work experience will be accepted only if previous experience applies to specific systems.
