This position is located at Harvard Vanguard’s Kenmore facility in Boston; conveniently located near the MBTA Green Line.

About the Position:

Under general supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager, assists in the monitoring and maintaining the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program. Assists in training, support and educational resources to all of the site laboratories. Participates in instrumentation and test correlation studies. Ensures that the laboratory compiles with CAP, State and Federal regulations. Maintains all databases for procedures and other documents.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Monitors and maintains quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) programs involving laboratory testing and provides summaries to the Quality Assurance Manager monthly. Ensures compliance with accreditation agencies and federal regulations.

2. Maintains the Document control electronic database for the laboratory that includes all of the test procedures for the laboratory and ensures that procedures are current, accurate. Weekly backs up the database for security.

3. Participates in the biannual CAP Inspections and preparation for all of the HVMA sites for testing. Performs audits and other QA indicators insuring that the laboratory meets and maintains competency and quality guidelines.

4. Co-ordinates and participates in the monthly Laboratory Quality Assurance meeting for HVMA laboratory taking meeting minutes and organizing the data summary for this meeting.

5. Assists in writing polices and procedures related to laboratory testing. Investigates, procures and disseminates information regarding manufacturer guidelines, and federal, and CAP regulations.

6. Participates in the evaluation for new testing requests and testing instrumentation, including organization and presentation of validation and correlation studies. Participates and provides technical support for any selected devices/instrumentation. Assists in the implementation, monitoring and troubleshooting of malfunctioning analyzers/monitors.

7. Provides technical support, customer service and guidance demonstrating a continuous learning environment while acting as an educational resource to the laboratory testing staff. Participates in continuing education whenever possible. Retains competency with laboratory testing and workflow by occasionally working in the laboratory as needed.

8. Participates as a member of the QA and Clinical Laboratory Team. Consistently demonstrates flexibility, objectivity and adaptability. Contributes new ideas to improve laboratory operations, policies and procedures and for meeting Laboratory and HVMA business goals. Participates in projects, as assigned.

9. Helps Maintain consistency throughout all the HVMA sites for laboratory testing, including testing procedures, trainings, proficiency testing and QA indictors and audits.

10. Ensures a professional attitude and appearance at all times. Consistently demonstrates flexibility and good judgment. Consults and communicates with Quality Assurance Manager.

11. Adheres to all Laboratory policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPPA, CAP, OSHA, State licensing and accreditation guidelines. Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis.

Candidate Requirements:

Education:

Associates degree in Medical lab Technology. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the ASCP.

Skills:

0-1 years related experience. Excellent problem-solving skills. Accurate, reliable, and able to work well under pressure and to finish a task once started. Strong communication skills, both in writing and speaking.
