Job Description:
Responsible for equipment calibration to assure accurate administration of dose to radiation therapy patients.  Responsible for mechanical checks on machine including monthly, quarterly, annual checks. Check activity of radioactive sources and maintains all information necessary for appropriate use. First response for maintenance of treatment and simulator units in conjuncture with in house Clinical Engineering.  Review all treatment plans for optimal treatment delivery and accuracy within the department policy time frame.  Double check calculations and compares with record and verify system within department policy time frame. Participates in electron set up working with  the physician to design optimal treatment.  Designs and/or fabricates custom bolus/shields/cutouts. Responsible for treatment planning for brachytherapy. Participates in brachytherapy source preparation, handling, and surveys.
Is available to physician for special physics consultation submitting full written consultation.
Supervises block room and double check block room output. Completes final physics review documenting treatment received in Physics Summary section of the treatment record.  Share weekly chart checking rotation. Supervise Dosimetry staff teaching and offering advice.
Support chief physicist with measuring data, QA, and organize policies for new procedures.
Work with chief physicist on special procedures (Radiosurgery, HDR, IMRT)
Performs duties as dosimetrist as needed for coverage and will handle complicated cases.



Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Physics; American Board of Radiology certification. Proficient computer skills; knowledge and understanding of IMPAC; knowledge and understanding of calibration equipment. Ability to work on treatment machines in all modes. Can demonstrate radiation safety when working with radioactive sources.
