Description
This position is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with influential members of the medical community to promote awareness and serve as a technical, scientific and medical expert in the specialty area ofNeurology. The incumbent must command a solid understanding of theNeurology specialty market place both nationally and regionally, and will also partner with the Medical Operations team to contribute to the overall understanding of the disease statewithin the assigned region. By targeting the appropriate stakeholders, the MSL will build solid and credible relationships for EMD Serono and cultivate key thought leaders as advocates and speakers in Academic and Community specialty practice. A critical role is to coordinate and conduct professional education, consultant programs and one to one peer exchange. The incumbent will be well versed in the technical details of the specific disease process, treatment data and share this knowledge appropriately in the conduct of the Medical Operations function relative to EMD Serono products.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Cultivate key thought leaders as advocates and speakers in academic and communityNeurology practices.Liaise with the Medical Operations and Medical Affairs team on the development and implementation of medical initiatives both nationally and regionally.Communicate research and development concepts with the medical department and Clinical Development Unit.Develop local and regional Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) (including physicians and other healthcare professionals).Disseminate to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals state-of-the-art research and medical concepts related toNeurology through educational presentations, consultant programs and one to one peer exchange.Develop and implement regional programs based on approved national templates regardingNeurology specific disease state awareness.Coordinate and manage medical operations activities in assigned region.Conceptualize and communicate requests from stakeholders through Medical Services to Clinical, pre-clinical, exploratory, drug safety and medical information etc.Represent EMD Serono, Inc. at specific continuing educational events/programs, medical meetings and conventions.Partner with the Area Business Director (ABD) from a medical/scientific standpoint.Support Managed Care Specialists by presenting the scientific rationale for the use of EMD Serono'sNeurology product (s) as an adjunct to their discussions with reimbursement agencies.Identify, field and focus unsolicited research proposals for studies that would provide new information on EMD Serono'sNeurology products.Ability to contribute to the construction of a Phase 3b/4 plan for Medical Affairs department.Establish MSL as experts by increasing knowledge base and taking a leadership role in discussions with customers and peers.
QUALIFICATIONS:Science based Masters, Bachelors or pharmacy degree with a minimum of 5 years experience with physician interactions and education programs. Minimum of 3 years of proven success as MSL, withNeurology experience generally preferred Scientific or clinical background highly desirable. Previous pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Excellent organizational skills and ability Highly developed interpersonal skills and teamworkStrong knowledge ofNeurology.
