Medication Resident Assistant

Job summary:

Works at the direction of the Resident Care Coordinator, Arboretum Care Coordinator and Assisted Living Director according to scheduled duties. Assists with medication, coordinates treatments to residents. Provides direct resident assistance with medication self-administration and activities of personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, managing toileting and incontinence.

· Maintains cleanliness of the medication and/or Arboretum and Assisted Living areas Essential duties and functions:

· Approaches all encounters with residents and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner

· Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming (includes wearing the proper attire and name tag when working)

· Complies at all times with KISCO’s standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient property operations

· Maintains good job attendance and punctuality

· Participates in planned in-service and training sessions

· Observes residents for any changes in condition and reports to RCC, ACC, Assisted Living Director or appropriate physician

· Documents and reports changes of condition and uses KISCO forms for resident care documentation.

· Assists with medication set up and assistance.

· Logs in medications from pharmacies, verifies physician’s orders and communicates any concerns immediately.

· Tracks all medications and re-orders as needed.

· Performs the following tasks: vital signs, weights, diabetic testing and/or insulin injections (if state allowed), ambulation, and activities

· Works toward maintaining each resident’s self-respect, personal dignity, and personal safety

· Assists Resident Assistants as needed and whenever primary medication tasks are completed.

· Tracks supplies that are needed and communicates to Assisted Living Director, RCC or ACC

· Performs other duties and tasks as assigned or required



Experience/Training/Education:

High school education preferred. Nursing Assistant course (State approved, if required). Must be 21 years of age (or meet state requirements). Must be knowledgeable of pertinent regulations with monitoring and licensing of the residence.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Patience and tact in dealing with others with a demonstrable overall positive image and attitude. Must possess genuine concern for and the ability to work with the elderly. Must be able to deal with confused or demanding residents. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and with multiple priorities. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Should be familiar with the use of equipment required to perform job duties: telephone, fax, computer.

Physical requirements:

Physical demands include stooping, bending, turning, stretching, lifting to assist residents, making beds, moving equipment. Visual and audio acuity necessary to detect changes in residents’ conditions. Manual dexterity required to handle equipment. Must accept risk of working in group setting where employees are exposed to communicable disease and possible resident combativeness. Must be able to lift at least 70 pounds with assistance of one.

Special requirements/Certifications:

Nursing Assistant Course (State approved, if required). Must be 21 years of age. Must obtain at least 12 continuing education units per year or as mandated by the State. Must have current First Aid and CPR certification. Must have passed the required training or certification (state specific) for assisting with medication.
