As part of the Telecare family, Cordilleras Mental Health Services is a licensed 68-bed mental health rehabilitation center in Redwood City. The center serves San Mateo County residents 18 and older with histories of mental illness and multiple episodes of acute psychiatric hospitalization. The goal of Cordilleras is to allow individuals who would otherwise be in a state hospital or an acute care setting to develop the skills and support needed to live independently in the community.

 

As part of a recent expansion, Cordilleras MHRC will house a Short Stay program. This new and exciting program will have 17 beds for clients who need short-term rehabilitation services. The average length of stay is between three days and three weeks. Cordilleras Short Stay serves individuals 18 years of age or older. At Short Stay, clients are responsible for taking part in their own recovery, and also for helping their peers recover. Clients may choose to learn more about their illness and how to manage it. Services include group and individual sessions with trained staff, covering issues such as symptom management, anger management, medication management, coping skills, as well as community living skills.



The Mental Health Worker provides client care and supervision in accordance with the prescribed treatment program.  Duties include a significant amount of time in client group leadership. In this role, you will build heavy contact and trust building with Clients, visitors and families. You will work closely with other clinical staff and community resource groups. 



Three (3) years of experience working in a psychiatric setting is required.  A bachelor’s degree in a related field may be accepted in lieu of years of experience. Current CPR certification, a valid California Drivers License and insurability are required.  The ability to instruct and communicate well with psychiatrically impaired clients, the willingness to actively participate in the therapeutic community/milieu program and knowledge and experience leading activity groups for psychiatric clients are all key.  Current knowledge of recovery philosophy and psychiatric rehabilitation principles preferred. The ability to read, write and speak English is crucial. Applicant must be finger printed and receive clearance from Criminal Justice department.
