Nurse Director Acute Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Program

GENERAL SUMMARY
Directs, supervises, and coordinates the functions and activities of the Acute Rehabilitation and B rain Injury Program. Responsible for overall management and coordination of nursing services to include fiscal resource management, human resource management, provision of quality of services and exceptional customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Preferred Education BSN required and registered in NYS as a professional nurse, required. Masters degree in Advanced Nursing or Management preferred.
 Preferred Experience Minimum three years acute clinical experience or three years of experience in a medical rehabilitation setting. Three to five years of progressive success in a nurse management position.
 Required Certification/Licensure Preferred advanced nursing certification in the rehabilitation area (CRRN) or neuroscience nursing.

DUTIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Each Employee consistently demonstrates the following essential functions:
 Plans safe and appropriate staffing levels and skill mix during all hours of operation to ensure quality patient outcomes.
 Selects appropriate candidates for any open positions at the site. Ensure appropriate orientation, training, competencies and professional development is maintained for all personnel at the site.
 Utilizes effective management techniques to facilitate appropriate development, coaching and counseling techniques on an ongoing basis. Completes annual performance appraisals on staff. Ensures that all staff participates in health system mandatory requirements. Ensures staff adheres to all policies, procedures and established standards of professional conduct.
 Participates in PM&R leadership planning and actively supports goals and objective of the department including program development, clinical education and customer satisfaction initiatives.
 Acts as a support/resource person to unit, staff, patients and their significant others, physicians, and other department staff and the community.
 Develop, support and mentors the clinical coordinators and other nursing staff as applicable, in his/her role to compliment the leadership of the unit.
 Actively participates on assigned hospital committees.
 Assumes responsibility for continuously assessing improving performance via participation in performance improvement activities and quality control mechanisms.
 Establish and maintain mechanisms to monitor continuing compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, CARF and other regulator/accrediting agency standards.
 Assures completion/investigation of portal reports and patient complaints with appropriate follow-up action.
 Supports and communicates standards of care, management philosophy and goals and objects to staff.
 Participates in the development of a financial plan that utilizes cost efficient human and material resources while maintaining quality patient care services.
 Facilitates team meetings, daily rounds and communication among patients, families, interdisciplinary team and contracting services.
 Responsible to develop and manage departmental operational budget.
 Responsible to develop and manage a comprehensive long range capital budget.
 Demonstrates understanding of variable budgeting and plans for staff accordingly.
