Ensures that quality age appropriate nursing care is delivered to all patients on his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies and program plans of the hospital. Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Evaluated staff performance in accordance with organizational policies. Develops, implements and maintains unit budget. Participates in nursing quality assurance. Maintains unit administration, including scheduling and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. NRP certified. Minimum of 3-5 years acute nursing experience with one year of nursing department experience. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/SKILLS: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational ability, nurse management and leadership skills. Demonstrated clinical expertise in area standards. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases. Risk of injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment, and from exposure to caustic substances. WORK CONTACT GROUP: All patient related hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel and medical staff. SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must meet requirements of the ADA (attached). Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and lift and transport patients. Must be able to stoop, push and pull. Stands and walks for most of the working day.
