Nurse / Phlebotomy Supervisor

LOCATION:  Dedham, MA

 

We have a need for a dynamic RN who can assume responsibility for Apheresis collection at our Dedham Donor Center.  You will provide mentoring and team leadership to our phlebotomy staff and stellar customer service to our healthy donors. Working in a positive, proactive environment, you’ll play an important role in managing the Blood Collection Operations.

 

This position is ideal for an individual who has the desire to work outside of a hospital or long term health care environment, or has been separated and wishes to return to the field of nursing.  The Red Cross offers such a wonderful opportunity to work directly with our healthy blood donors. 

 

Pheresis Donation:

While all blood donations are vital, pheresis is a specific kind of donation using updated medical technology to collect platelets or plasma from a donor.  Patients benefiting the most from pheresis transfusions are those with blood diseases and those being treated for cancer.  In the case of cancer patients, platelets are destroyed not only by the disease, but often by the treatment.  Patients being prepared for a bone marrow transplant also need many transfusions of platelets, both before and after the transplant.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Phlebotomy staff performs the following duties:

 Donor registration and health histories and venipuncture in compliance with state and federal regulations, National Red Cross Blood Services Directives (BSD’s), American Association of Blood Banking (AABB) standards and New England Region policies and procedures. 

 Reschedules donors for subsequent appointments during the donation process. 

 Performs setup, operation and breakdown of apheresis equipment as well as daily quality control of the equipment, monthly preventative maintenance and machine validation as required.  Responsible for the simultaneous operation of five to eight apheresis machines. 

 Completes all sample documentation required by testing laboratories.

 Ensures that customer satisfaction is always given top priority.

 

Work schedule:

40 hours per week.  You will be provided with your work schedule two weeks in advance.

 

 

Donor Center Hours:

 

The Dedham Donor Center hours for Pheresis Collection are as follows:

 

Monday     12:45pm – 9:00pm

Tuesday     6:15am – 2:45pm

Wednesday       11:45am – 8:00pm

Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7:15am -  3:30pm

Sunday  (open 2 per month)   7:00am – 3:30pm

 

Training:

Comprehensive paid classroom and on-the-job training will be provided.  Upcoming  New Hire Orientation and Training begins on June 2nd and July 1st.

 

Requirements:

We would like to fill this role by someone who can foster a team environment where all relevant duties are performed in accordance with regulatory requirements, provide leadership and mentoring needed to maintain superior donor care, safety and satisfaction during the donation process.

 

· Current RN license for State of Massachusetts and CPR certification

· Requires total related experience of four to six years with a minimum of one year of supervisory  experience. 

· Requires job knowledge equivalent to that attained in three years of college (Diploma in

Nursing)

· Excellent customer service orientation

· Prior experience using computers and software is necessary.
