Responsibility Level:

Manage plant Health Services department to ensure the health and safety of all workers, and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures and government regulations. The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) will function under the directives of the plant physician and the appropriate State Nurse Practice Act. 



 

Typical Duties:

1. Administer and maintain the plant medical emergency plan, including the training of first aiders and bloodborne pathogens exposure plan.

2. Provide emergency treatment of both occupational and non-occupational injury and illness, follow-up and monitoring workers as they return to work. Assist in administration of case management.  Maintain the OSHA Log and workers' compensation records. 

3. Manage leave of absence policy including short term disability (STD) and Family Medical Leave (FMLA) requests.

4. Provide for job placement, periodic and exit physicals according to American Disability Act (ADA), Affirmative Action and OSHA Lead Standard. Perform health assessments on site for early detection of health problems, including the following clinicals: vision screening, blood pressure, audiograms, respirator medical questionnaire evaluation and phlebotomy blood draws.

5. Coordinate the Hearing Conservation Program by providing audiometric testing, with follow-up and referrals and training.

6. Serve on the plant safety committee and participate in the investigation of illnesses and injuries. Analyze data and participate in plant safety programs.

7. Provide crisis intervention, counseling and referral to plant Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider. Administer the drug and alcohol program to include urine specimen collection.

8. Provides health education and promotion programs to include: smoking cessation, exercise, fitness, nutrition, weight control, hypertension, immunizations and stress management.

 

Overtime may be required to meet internal and external customer requirements. 

Will be expected to occasionally work 2ndand 3rdshift for training and other tasks.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in nursing, 3-5 years experience in occupational health or management capacity. Licensed by State of Illinois, able to work flexible schedule when required. Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
