Title: Occupational Therapist, Early Intervention Program
Primary Purpose:
To provide occupational therapy services, applying principles and practices to children with special needs to promote optimum fine motor skills development. Under the direct supervision of the Early Intervention Program Manager.
Essential Duties/Functions:
路 Actively and cooperatively participate in the transdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive developmental program for infants, toddlers, or children with special needs and their families.
路 Provide occupational therapy evaluations, with written reports, for program participants (including activities of daily living, muscle training and coordination, perceptual motor development, sensory development, and fine motor coordination etc.).
路 Prepare occupational therapy individualized program plan.
路 Plan and prepare activities, projects, and materials for children, devising activities to follow through on treatment and involving language, gross and fine motor, and self-help skills, initiative and creative activities, social and emotional skills.
路 Provide consulting services in occupational therapy techniques to other team members; interpret application of occupational therapy techniques to classroom activities and demonstrate techniques to staff and parents. Seek consultative services from other team members when needed.
路 Schedule and participate in the Individualized Family Support Plan meetings, including developing outcomes and goals.
路 Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner
路 Maintain client records, including reports, evaluations, objectives, occupational therapy treatments, and progress reports.
路 Attend and participate in staff and team meetings, providing observations and input about clients.
路 Assist with personal care needs utilizing universal precautions.
路 Intervene within guidelines for behavioral incidents.
路 Requires home visits and visits to other community programs and sites.
Other Duties/Functions:
路 Assist in keeping the program site and environment "childproof" and safe. Report any safety concerns to the Program Manager.
路 Participate in service training sessions and continuing education.
路 Participate in/coordinate events as requested.
路 Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Hours: Monday through Friday, occasional Saturday hours, as directed by immediate supervisor.

Mental Requirements:
路 Ability to work calmly with behavioral and health related incidents.
路 Requires alertness to respond to audio and visual cues from clients, other staff members, the environment and standard office machines and equipment.
路 Logic and reasoning for forecasting future needs, goals, and events.
路 Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and schedules.
路 Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
Physical Requirements:
路 Requires bending, lifting, transferring and pushing wheelchairs for persons up to 40 pounds.
路 Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and over the telephone.
路 General vision, hearing, speech, walking and standing required. Turning, twisting, kneeling, and bending performed.
Qualification Requirements:
Health:
路 Freedom from any communicable disease or medical conditions that would interfere with the physical requirements of this position.
路 Current Tuberculosis clearance required.
Skills/Knowledge:
路 Working knowledge of developmental disabilities and principles of inclusion and familiarity with ADA guidelines.
路 Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
路 Organizational ability to work with minimum supervision on routine assignments.
路 Valid drivers license and an insurable driving record, if providing off site services.
路 Understanding of, and respect for persons with special needs and their families.
路 Positive public relations attitude and approach when dealing with those we serve and the general public.
Education/Training
路 Degree in Occupational Therapy required
路 Current registration with the National Board of Certification of Occupational Therapy required.
路 Current State of Hawaii Registration required.
路 Current first aid and CPR certification.
Experience
路 One year experience in occupational therapy.
路 Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
