Ophthalmic Technician II

UCLA,  Jules Stein Eye Institute seeks a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to provide ophthalmic technician support to the Cornea-External Diseases Division of the Doris Stein Eye Research Center.  Duties include taking patient’s medical history, visual acuity, dilate patients, refractions, topography, lensometry.  Order all supplies for five exam rooms and minor surgery room.  Maintain all instruments.  Assist in minor procedure as needed.

The following are required: knowledge of ophthalmic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the visual system, refractive errors, diseases affecting the eye, the effect systemic diseases such as diabetes have on the eye, principles of first-aid treatment for ocular and other medical emergencies; knowledge of ophthalmic medications and proper instillation of topical eye drugs and application of eye dressings; knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and sterilization techniques; skill in acquiring accurate medical histories, measuring and recording visual acuities, performing lensometry, refractometry, tonometry, keratometry and other ophthalmic tests with children and adults; ability to work under pressure of busy workload; interpersonal skills to establish and maintain comfortable and cooperative working relationships with physicians, patients and co-workers; skill in working independently with minimal direction; ability to work as a team member in a busy private practice.
