Samaritan Village, a nationally known leader in substance abuse treatment services, has the following opportunities available at its Forbell Men’s Shelter site.  Forbell Men’s Shelter, a 194 bed program for substance abusers, is located at 338 Forbell Street, Brooklyn, New York 11208. 

 

Part Time Psychiatrist (11 Hours per week)

As a support to both of the clinical teams, this position provides mental health evaluations for clients referred by the Social Workers, prescribes medication as required, and performs  psychiatric evaluations as required  for community housing placements. This position reports directly to the Forbell Facility Director and indirectly to the agency’s Medical Director.Responsible for evaluating referred clients for mental illness.Responsible for prescription of psychotropic medication, when appropriate.Responsible for monitoring identified clients.Responsible for consultation/coordination with on-site medical provider.Qualifications – Applicant must be a licensed psychiatrist who can practice and prescribe medication in New York State. Experience with substance abusing, homeless, or transient clients preferred.
