SWRSC is open Monday through Friday, working DAY shifts with no on-call or weekends.  We are seeking positive, team-oriented individuals with excellent interpersonal & communication skills.



PACU STAFF RN

 DESCRIPTION

This position provides direct patient care to surgical patients in the ambulatory surgical care setting.  Assess and care for patients recovering from general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia and IV sedation.  Provides nursing care of patients of all ages using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.  Registered Nurses apply knowledge drawn from broad, in-depth education in the social and physical sciences in assessing, planning, ordering, giving, delegating, teaching, and providing nursing care which promotes the patient’s optimum health and safety.  A wide range of general nursing skill is required.  In addition, development of special knowledge and skills appropriate to the specific position is necessary.

 TYPICAL TASKSAppropriately oversees recovery process of surgical patients Monitors for high risk events Monitors pain management of patient Appropriately identifies when patient is ready for discharge. Able to appropriately respond to airway distress Provides patients information regarding the surgery and discharge instructions Completes patient follow up calls in a timely and complete manner  Able to perform Pre- operative RN functions when necessary  Chart documentation is accurate and complete Reports to team leader any adverse/unusual event regarding patient care Uses occurrence reports to report adverse/unusual events regarding patient care  Demonstrates sound technical knowledge Understands the impact of a situation and responds appropriately Ability to administer local sedation, or willingness to acquire skills Willing to cross train in OR if necessary. Other tasks as assigned.



Responsibilities and Core expectations Maintains regulatory requirements including nursing and organizational policies and procedures and standards Adheres to corporate compliance policies including confidentiality, safety, and health policies Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and is consistent with the organizational values, policies and objectives. 

 REQUIREMENTSAssociate or BS Degree in Nursing or Nursing Program Diploma Washington State RN License. BLS and ACLS required 2 years PACU experience in same day surgery preferred Must have good assessment and IV skills.  Skills in airway management and conscious sedation preferred. Good communication skills, positive attitude with good team-building skills Oral/written communication, analysis/problem solving, medical terminology, skill in teaching patients/families about procedures, and knowledge of nursing practices; ability to practice in multidisciplinary team. Must be adaptable and willing to complete other tasks as assigned.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Standing and walking for 80% of a regularly scheduled working shift. Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment in PACU. Frequent fingering to prepare and administer meds, connect equipment to patient, and handle supplies in PACU. High visual demand to read paperwork and all supplies labels. Must be able to safely maneuver in very restricted spaces in the PACU recovery bays. Bending and twisting for up to 20% of a regularly scheduled working shift. Lifting with a team to move patient about on the stretcher.  Weight varies dependant on the size of the patient.
