SUMMARY:
Operates PET/CT equipment to produce cross sectional radiographs, and PETCT images. Measure concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specific body areas and body products to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illnesses. Follows rules and regulations established by the NRC, state licensing agencies as well as the standards set forth by the JCAHO in the proper method of handling radioactive isotopes and the provision of quality patient care.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position and following protocols specified by Radiologist.
2. Administers, isotope dosage, contrast media (intravenous or oral), and records dosage/volume administered following established departmental procedures
3. Enters data such as type of scan requested, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical data into computer. Starts CT scanner to scan designated anatomical area of patient. Talks to patient over intercom system and observes patient to monitor patient safety and comfort
4. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanner or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce images of organs. Measures radioactivity using scintillation detectors. Follows radiation safety techniques in usage and disposal of radioactive isotopes in accordance with departmental procedures. Views CT images of organs or tissue on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures. Starts camera to produce radiographs. Evaluates radiographs, videotape and computer generated information for technical quality.

5. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination. Maintains accurate Q/C logs, service records, patient logs, etc. Maintains professional technologist/patient relationship and work practices.
6. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment. Operates equipment within manufacturers specifications and guidelines.
7. Performs all duties in accordance with Alliance Imaging policies and procedures manual and supplemental procedure established for Nuclear Medicine/PET/PETCT.
8. Follows all infection control and safety procedures as outlined in Bloodborne Pathogens and Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

-Minimum 1 – 2 years related experience and/or training; Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Must be registered in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and or/Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB). *ARRT(RT) and/or CRT is preferred if diagnostic CT scan is performed. Certain states require technologists to hold a specific license to this imaging modality.

-Current CPR certification is required.
