Kaiser Permanente is proud to be an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.DEPARTMENT: Patient Mobility DepartmentSCHEDULE: On-call, Variable Shift, hours based on departmental needs. EDUCATION / LICENSE / CERTIFICATION: High School diploma or GED required; CPR Certificate (BLS)JOB SUMMARY: Provide timely and efficient general transport of patients between nursing units as well as discharge escort. Monitor and provide for the needs of patients waiting for services. Perform miscellaneous ancillary functions. Assist patients on and off beds and examination tables to appropriate transportation device. Will be lifting weights in excess of 50 lbs. Assures patients are properly attired and covered for warmth, modesty and comfort during transportation. Verifies the patient identification by checking identification band and compares patient identification with the one on the request. Uses transportation devices (wheelchairs, gurneys) in accordance to established safety practices. Reports to nurse any noticeable change in patient condition during transport.Reports to supervisor, manager or house supervisor any immediate concerns with patient care. Opportunity to train for Patient Mobility Technician position may become available. Relief in higher classification will be paid at the higher rate coverage in Patient Mobility position. Hours posted are subject to change depending on the department operational needs.QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Past experience in a medical office or hospital preferred. Ability to perform routine or repetitive tasks. Must be able to speak, read and write in English language. Manual dexterity required with sustained standing, lifting, pushing and pulling activities. Capable of performing repetitive upper body motion. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to courteously interact with the public, health plan members and coworkers. Punctual, dependable, personable and able to meet customers amiably. In all interactions with patients, members, physicians, staff and visitors demonstrates service-oriented behaviors that include culturally sensitive good manners, respect and polite communications. Demonstrates openness to creative and innovative approaches to providing service. Capable of frequently moving patients and equipment according to safe patient handling policies.DUTIES: Transport Inpatients to different departments in the Medical Center. Transport Inpatients from one room to another or unit. Assist patient to lobby upon discharge as needed. Partner with volunteer services as needed for patient transport. Assists as backup for Mobility Team. Makes transport rounds and seeks to support the Mobility Team throughout the facility between transports. Assures patients are properly attired and covered for warmth, modesty, and comfort during transportation. Removes inoperable equipment from service and reports repair needs to engineering. Assist with transport of patients following Code Blue as a priority. Prioritize Transport requests. Assist and maintain detailed log sheet. Ensure wheelchairs and gurneys are safe for transport.Establishes and maintain courteous, professional, co-operative relations with the public, patients and other personnel. Champions workplace safety initiatives and communicates importance of Safe Patient Handling to staff. Use Standard Precaution. Uses prescribed practice of Infection Control Standards to maintain cleanliness of equipment, which includes wheelchairs and gurneys.
