Physical Therapist-Early Intervention

Primary Purpose:

To provide physical therapy services, applying principles and practices to children with special needs, promoting optimum gross motor physical development.  Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager - Early Intervention Program.

 

Essential Duties/Functions:

·  Actively and cooperatively participates in the transdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive educational, developmental and therapeutic program for children with special needs and their families.

·  Provides physical therapy evaluations, with written reports, for program participants (including self help skills, motor development and coordination, sensory-motor development, etc.).

·  Prepares and implements physical therapy individualized treatment plans.

·  Plans and prepares activities, projects, and materials to meet the needs of the children, utilizing a transdisciplinary approach.

·  Provides consulting services in physical therapy techniques to other team members; interprets applications of physical therapy techniques to classroom activities and demonstrates techniques to staff and parents.  Ensures proper follow through and competence with techniques.

·  Seeks consultative services from other team members when needed.

·  Requires home visits and visits to other community program sites.

·  Participates in the Individualized Family Support Plan meetings, including the development of outcomes and goals.

·  Provides Care Coordination services, if selected by family.

·  Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner

·  Maintains Federal and State required client records, including evaluations, objectives, physical therapy progress notes and home program information.

·  Attends and participates in staff and team meetings, providing observations and input.

·  Assists with personal care needs utilizing universal precautions.







  Skills/Knowledge:

·  Working knowledge of developmental disabilities, familiarity with ADA and Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) guidelines and understanding of the importance of inclusion.

·  The ability, understanding and compatibility to interact with families, professionals, and paraprofessionals and work within a transdisciplinary model of service delivery.

·  Understanding of, and respect for children with special needs and their families.  Ability to be attentive to input from families regarding their child’s preferences.

·  Positive public relations attitude & approach when dealing with those we serve & the general public.

·  Organizational ability to work with minimum supervision on routine assignments.

·  Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

·  Operating knowledge of a computer, applications & software, standard office machines & equipment.

·  Valid drivers license and an insurable driving record, or own means of transportation.

 Education/Training:

·  Masters or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy

·  Current State of Hawaii license in Physical Therapy, required.

·  Current first aid and CPR certification.
