Physical Therapist Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Physical Therapy SCHEDULE: Part-Time Regular, 20 hours per week, day shift. Monday through Friday: 8:30am to 12:30pm. EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited physical therapy curriculum and a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or Doctoral degree, with certification in physical therapy or foreign-trained equivalent. Masters degree in Physical Therapy preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed to practice physical therapy by the State of California. Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date. JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Rehabilitation Services Director in the overall management of departmental operations, supervision of staff, and program development and implementation. Provides independent physical therapy management of patient under the direction of the Rehabilitation Services Director. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have at least three years experience in physical therapy. Experience in program development required. Evidence of on-going professional development required. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Preferred Qualification: Experience supervising other professional staff and subordinates. Experience with a variety of computer applications including word, excel, power point, filemaker pro or other databases. Excellent interpersonal skills DUTIES: Assumes all responsibilities as outlines on the Senior Physical Therapist job profile. Assists the Rehabilitation Services Director in developing policies and procedures related to professional development, the delivery of care, quality improvement, and professional competency. Assists the Rehabilitation Services Director in administrative tasks related to daily department functioning. Evaluates the performance of the physical therapy staff. Provides orientation for new personnel. Provides direct supervision of professional and support staff. Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and review of patient care and professional development programs. May provide clinical consultation and/or mentoring for professional staff. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the criteria for professional practice. Assumes responsibility for proper functioning of the Physical Therapy services in the absence of the Rehabilitation Services Director. Other Duties:2.0 Responsibilities2.1 Assists the Director in:2.1.1 Developing standards for professional competency.2.1.2 Developing tools for measurement of professional competency.2.1.3 Developing mechanisms for quality assurance.2.1.4 Developing policies and procedures related to delivery of care. 2.2 Assists the Director in administrative tasks related to daily department functioning including planning, coordinating, implementing and supervising departmental operations. 2.3 Reviews and updates written, departmental guidelines for patient care. 2.4 Monitors compliance of physical therapy staff with standards for patient care.2.5 Evaluates the standard of performance of the physical therapy staff.2.5.1 Reviews performance on a continuing basis.2.5.2 Completes timely written performance evaluations according to established guidelines.2.5.3 Reviews performance evaluations with Director.2.5.4 Provides orientation for new personnel in areas of:2.5.5 Departmental policies and procedures re: patient care.2.5.6 Standards for patient care.2.6 Provides for supervision of new personnel for six months after employment.2.7 Provides consultation for professional staff regarding departmental standards for:2.7.1 Evaluation techniques.2.7.2 Interpretation of findings.2.7.3 Development of the physical therapy goals and program.2.7.4 Treatment techniques.2.7.5 Alternate discharge planning.2.7.6 Communication regarding patient care: i.e. record keeping, verbal communications2.8 Provides direct patient care. Upon request for physical therapy consult from a primary medical practitioner, as defined by the Senior Physical Therapy job description. 2.8.1 Provides accurate, timely documentation of physical therapy patient management.2.8.2 Is compliant with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. 2.8.3 Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (KP’s code of conduct) by maintaining confidentiality, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting noncompliance, and adhering to applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements, and KP policies and procedures.2.9 Coordinates activities of the Physical Therapy Department with other departments.2.10 Assumes responsibility for proper functioning of Physical Therapy services in the absence of the Director.2.11 Demonstrates competency in age specifics related to assessing, treating and/or caring for varying patient populations including infants, children, adolescents, and elderly adults. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente’s Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures.
