As an integral member of our Cardiothoracic Surgical team, you will work closely with the cardiac surgeons and other team members in providing all aspects of care to an adult cardiac surgery patient population.  This is a per diem position, day shift Mon – Friday with occasional weekend and on call. Must be within a 30-minute commute from the Hospital. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

· Obtaining patient histories

· Physical examinations

· Assessments and diagnoses

· Ordering tests, x-rays, lab work, etc.

· Counseling patients and families regarding plan of care and clinical issues

· Initiating arrangements for admissions and discharge

· Prescribing and administering drugs, including controlled substances per policy

· Performing and interpreting diagnostic procedures

· Clinical management of patients in the ICU, Post-op, inpatient, follow up phases

· Performing and/or assisting with intra-operative and other surgical procedures as per policy and competencies.

 

Qualified candidates will possess:

· Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred ) with graduation from an ARC-PA approved training program; Master’s degree and additional post-graduate training in Cardiac Surgery preferred

· 3-5 years of experience in Cardiac Surgery

· Connecticut PA license

· NCCPA (National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants), BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications
