Project Director, Health Services Research

We are seeking a Project Director, Health Services Research to provide health systems research expertise to inform leaders, technical experts, analysts, clinicians and other professional staff regarding clinical/organizational quality improvement work and health outcomes research. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Working in an integrated delivery system, the Project Director is responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative health services research on diverse areas of interest to the corporation. Such areas may include but are not limited to: chronic disease management, patient safety, economic savings associated with quality of care, and evaluation of quality improvement activities associated with the Virginia Mason Production System. 2. Obtain research funding for grants and contracts. Author technical reports and articles for submission to technical journals. 3. Extract, manipulate and manage data from internal data repositories (billing, cost accounting) and external vendors, medical records and survey data. Work with database designers to design key data collection and analysis tools. May also provide assistance, informal guidance and mentoring for programmers and other analytical staff. Please note: this position will not provide day to day supervision of staff. QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in economics, sociology, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, industrial engineering, operations research, anthropology or research design required. Must have 5+ years in health services research. Your background must also include: • Ability to create solutions that serve practical, front line purposes •Ability to analyze, extract and manipulate large data sets, familiarity with healthcare claims data • Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated programming skills (SAS, SQL, SPSS), a • Ability to communicate complex analysis results • Experience managing health outcomes projects from inception to final reporting. • Knowledge of health services research, claims data. • Broad knowledge of the health care system, including CMS, JCAHO regulations, reimbursement models and market trends in pay for performance. Familiarity with the quality initiatives of major NGOs, (e.g., IHI, JCAHO etc.) • Ability to create practical solutions that provide immediate benefit to patient care.
