Opportunity for a NCCPA-certified physician assistant to provide hospitalist and psychiatric services for the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ State Operated Services, in one of ten state-of-the-art, 16-bed, community based, adult in-patient psychiatric hospitals around the state. Opportunities currently exist in Community Behavioral Health Hospitals in the following Minnesota locations: Alexandria, Annandale, Bemidji, Cold Spring, Wadena, and Willmar, Minnesota.

 

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a small, in-patient psychiatric treatment facility designed to treat adults with acute psychiatric issues who require treatment in a safe environment.  The hospital provides an array of services including assessment of mental, social and physical health.  The multi-disciplinary team includes physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and other rehabilitation specialists as appropriate. Active mental health treatment and programming includes the patient’s introduction to the Illness Management and Recovery model of patient treatment.  The model is person-centered and includes the family and community resources in treatment planning and implementation. 

 

Minnesota is a very favorable practice state for PA’s.  Housing is plentiful and affordable.  The caliber of education and social services is among the highest in the nation.  Communities here offer a wide variety of indoor and outdoor cultural, entertainment and recreational activities.  This unusual position offers increasing levels of autonomy with interdependence, collaborative colleagues and the opportunity to learn and hone your skills in hospitalist medicine and psychiatry. 

 

Qualifications:Must be comfortable working in a psychiatric setting where patients are mandated or court committed.  Applicant must also have one or more of the following: 

- A degree in counseling, psychology or related field, in addition to the degree in physician assistant

- 2+ years experience working in a psychiatric, community mental health, or CD treatment setting

- Completion of an internship or post-graduate residency in psychiatry/psychology

 

We offer the freedom of contractor status, with contracted salaries of up to $68.00/hour for NCCPA certified physician assistants with MN registration.  Paid on call is available in addition to this salary.  Full time, part-time and weekend coverage positions are available.
