Psychology Medical Technician

General Job Description:

The Medical Technician position is responsible for working with psychology professionals on the telephone, in writing and via facsimile transmission to prior authorize psychiatric services.  The Medical Technician utilizes previous healthcare experience in conjunction with an interactive application used to determine review outcomes.  Additionally, the technician must understand algorithms and clinical rules associated with the service under review in order to make a final decision regarding a request for prior authorization of a psychiatric service (s). Excellent customer service skills are required in addition to having the ability to learn and retain procedural processes and apply them quickly and accurately.

 

ResponsibilitiesAnswer telephone 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday with the exception of specified state holidays.Ensure requirements and modifications stated in the contract are completed in order to maintain contract compliance.Work with health care professionals to render decisions on psychiatric prior authorization requests based on state mandated policy regarding psychology services.Understand and retain healthcare and industry knowledge.Perform other duties as assigned or requested.



Qualifications/Education Required:

· Five years of work experience in one or more of the following fields: health care provider relations, insurance claims processing, medical billings, medical diagnostic and procedure coding, bookkeeping or comparable record keeping, financial eligibility assessment, health care regulations development and/or enforcement, or similar work, of which two years must have been in an advanced capacity (Clerk III, Account Clerk II or comparable level work). (Education in an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the general experience and for a maximum of one year of the specialized experience. Graduate study in an accredited college or, university in the areas of public, business or health care administration, nursing, medical technology, social work, finance, accounting or related areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the general or specialized experience.)

· Previous experience working in the field of healthcare required.

· Previous experience working in the area of psychology desired.

· Customer service and telephonic UR experience desired.
