Description
This is an excellent opportunity for a critical care nurse ( ICU, ER, PACU) with a passion to patient care and a desire for an autonomous role.

Transplant Coordinator.

Review referrals from medical centers throughout the NY Region for potential organ/ tissue donors.

Make on-site visits to evaluate and determine donor suitability; work collaboratively with facility medical teams to optimally manage organ viability through strict adherence to established brain-death/ terminal wean protocols.

Play an active clinical role in management of donors; perform physical assessments; obtaining serology & tissue-typing specimens; serve as a consultant & educator to all hospital staff involved.

Serve as a resource in maintaining optimal organ viability including diagnostic evaluation, treatment issues & procedures.

Serve as liaison to families; ensure preparation for end of life decisions and provide grief counseling.
Coordinate process of organ sharing through the national database after consent signing; collaborate with transplant centers/facility administrators throughout the United States, arrange air flights, contact O.R.'s on stand-by, funeral directors and others.

Remain in O.R. during procurement; maintaining on-going clinical communications w/ multiple recipient transplant surgeons; coordinate adequate organ perfusion/medications w/ anesthesia, oversee perfusion, sterility & distribution, biopsies etc.; assist w/ post-mortem care; communicate w/ Medical Examiner & Funeral Directors as needed.

Serve as an educator to hospitals and public outreach programs to maintain clinical & family/grief counseling competencies & to promote the benefits of organ donation.

Travel: In this capacity, you will work in 12 hour pre-scheduled shifts. Travel to all NYC boroughs, Long Island and Westchester is required. Travel expense of $566 is provided. Additional reimbursement for tolls and parking is available.

Requirements: A minimum of an Associates Degree in Nursing. At least 1 year of experience in critical care. Candidates with experience from teaching hospital are highly preferred. Knowledge of a foreign language is preferred, especially Russian. Ability to work independently. Access to a vehicle.

Starting Salary is $72,500 - $80,000. Benefits include 4 weeks vacation. Fully paid medical and dental benefits and a pension plan.

 

Requirements
NYS RN license; 1+ years as a critical care nurse. Ability to travel and work autonomously.
