Reference Lab Technologist

Responsible for the daily operations of assigned reference laboratory. Hire and supervise staff performing basic and advances test procedures and interpreting complex test results to determine donor/recipient compatibility. Advise technologists is resolving compatibility problems, providing reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion facilities and is supplying antigen-negative units to transfusion recipients.  Participate in education and training activities. Ensure compliance with federal, state, ARCBS directives and regional policy and procedures and regulations. Assure compliance with safety policies and procedures in the work area and use applicable protective equipment at all times to prevent exposure to potentially infectious blood and body fluids. Comply with the Clinical Laboratory Information Act (CLIA). Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures, Safety Quality Identity Potency Purity (SQUIPP), regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other applicable Federal, state and local regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

Bachelor's degree in science, or equivalent experience, with MT (ASCP) certifications or equivalent certifications where required. SBB certification or equivalent required. Minimum three years laboratory experience required. Supervisory experience is preferred. Good communication and computer skills required.  Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs.  Available to work overtime, other shifts, possible holidays and weekends.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Requires standing, stretching, stooping and bending for extended periods.  Lift, pull, push and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.  May work in walk-in refrigerator/freezers for periods of time.
