Registered Veterinary Technician (or equivelant)

Job Purpose:

Provide outstanding emergency care to our established clients and patients throughout nights and weekends.  This position requires a technician to work independently and eficiently to complete assigned tasks, as well as monitor and care for patients.

 

Duties:Care for hospitalized patients and special needs boarders; including walking, feeding, medicating, monitoring critical cases, and cleaning kennels.

 Communicate with veterinarians and  daytime technicians about hospitalized patients and appropriate care.

 Assist doctors with emergency exams by assembling required supplies and instruments, restraining patient for necessary procedures, and providing assistance as directed by veterinarians.

 Close monitoring of critical patients; including ECG, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, SPO2, fluid administration, CVP, CRT, and tempurature.

 Supports emergency surgical procedures by assembling required supplies and instruments; completing induction and maintenance anesthesia; operating anesthesia machines; monitoring the anesthetized patient (ECG, Pulse, Blood pressure, SPO2, fluids, CRT, Temp, etc.); preparing surgical site; maintaining a sterile field; recovery of surgical patient; obtaining and verifying medications and treatments.

 Performs  emergency diagnostic laboratory procedures including: chemistry profiles, complete blood counts, manual wbc differentials, urinalysis, coagulation profiles, electrolyte panels, and preparing samples to be sent to outside laboratories.

 Cares for animals by taking vital signs; collecting samples; administering medications (oral, SQ, IM,IV), placing indwelling IV and urinary catheters.

 Maintains animals by feeding and watering; cleaning animals' rooms, cages, and equipment; changing cages; observing for clinical signs of disease.

 Keep up with clinic laundary; including soiled towels, blankets, geriatric pads, and sugical laundary.

 Maintain clinic appearance by completing a list of tasks and projects including stocking supplies, cleaning treatment area, kennel area, and icu area, preparing surgical area for next days procedures, cleaning and autoclaving of surgical instruments, and invetory needed supplies.

 Maintains animal records by documenting animals conditions, behaviors, reactions, and changes.

 Maintains equipment by following operating instructions, performing control testing and calibration procedures, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance.

 Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional journals.
