Research Assistant I

Company: Children's Hospital Boston Location: US-MA-Boston Status: Full Time, Employee Job Category: Biotech/R&D/Science We are seeking an animal technician to join the research laboratory of Dr. Alan Beggs at the Children's Hospital Boston. This position will maintain and conduct experimental studies on the transgenic and knockout mouse colonies of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the husbandry and experimental study of laboratory animals. With minimal supervision, maintain and manage lab animal breeding colonies to meet research and production goals and assist with training of new staff members. Management of colonies includes DNA isolation and genotyping, phenotypic assessment, and molecular genetic, biochemical and physiological studies. Additional responsibilities of the successful candidates will include assisting Post-doctoral fellows with their experiments, performing his/her own experiments, interpreting data and participating in manuscript preparation. In addition, he/she will be responsible for helping with general laboratory maintenance and ordering, and will participate in laboratory and departmental meetings and academic presentations. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, genetics, or a related field with a working knowledge of the principles and concepts of genetics is required. Prior experience working with rodents in a research setting is a plus. The candidate should be organized and detail-oriented with strong written and verbal skills and ability to work in a team environment.~MN~
