RESIDENTIAL MILIEU COUNSELOR

Small, year-round residential school for emotionally disturbed adolescents seeks energetic, creative college grad with B.A. in human service-related field to work directly with residents in their daily lives.  Entry level position in quality program, combining roles of counseling, parenting, activity leadership, case management. Intensive adolescent treatment with supportive, team-based staff model.  Schedule includes evening and weekend time as shared by staff team.  Hard work, irreplaceable learning experience and training opportunity.  Commitment period required.

 

Responsibilities

 

-supervision and guidance to students in their daily lives within structured milieu

-individual counseling and treatment design, including some family contact

-crisis intervention

-development/implementation of therapeutic activities program

-participating in household and meal management

-active support of orderly, structured environment for students

 

Requirements

 

-B.A. in human service-related field

-some experience working with adolescents or in residential setting

-over age 21 with valid Mass. driver's license

-ability to work with people of varying racial/ethnic backgrounds

-activity skills desirable, such as crafts, sports, the outdoors, cooking, etc.

-willingness to work non-traditional schedule and adapt to some special trips

  (e.g. camping, skiing)

-willingness to participate in a team and adapt to team decisions/priorities.
