Position Description
The Technical Writing Intern is a member of the HD Problem Resolution Team. This position reports to the Process/SOP Project Manager, and supports all HD operations locations, including, but not limited to; Portland, Maine; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Boston, Massachusetts. This position assists in the creation of process documentation and training materials deemed necessary in order to define and communicate HD processes. This position is accountable for:
· Assisting in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures and updates
· Participating in Process definition working groups
· Assisting in the creation of flow documentation and updates
· Assisting in the creation of Training documentation and updates
Primary Responsibilities
Performance will be measured by the individual’s ability to:
· Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
· Interview personnel and read current documentation and other material to become familiar with technologies and methods, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
· Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
· Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
· Analyze developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material.
· Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
· Create drawings, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
· Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
· Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
· Interpret the meaning of information for others; translate or explain what information means and how it should be used.
· Document/record information; enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
· Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates; provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
· Update and use relevant knowledge; keep up-to-date technically on learning strategies and training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation and apply new knowledge to job.
Qualifications & ExperienceMust have superior knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.Must be a self-starter with a passion for detail and a sense of urgency, capable of working independently and in a team-based environment.Demonstrated organizational skills, employing excellent verbal and written communication skills.Critical thinker with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.This is a part-time position located in Health Dialog's Portland office.
