POSITION SUMMARY:
The DBA creates, maintains, and optimizes the performance of LifeMasters databases in a Microsoft environment Coordinates work, as needed, with other database administrators.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Installation and maintenance of SQL Server databases. This includes implementation of new data schema, fields, or data values; backup and restore of databases; monitoring and troubleshooting database issues; and configuring and testing new database features for new releases. Maintain database support documentation. Upgrade equipment to current software releases. Maintain system currency with technology (hardware and software). Provide end user database support. Monitor database system performance and suggest optimizations as needed. Assist in support for resolving system malfunctions. Purchasing of new equipment as required. Integrate new equipment, database software, and system software as it is purchased. Provide low-level support to engineering team
REQUIREMENTS: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. A demonstration of writing ability may be required. Ability to work with other DBAs, developers and non-technical staff to resolve problems. Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, such as major hardware or system failures. Advanced knowledge of SQL language. Ability to write and deploy effective triggers, stored procedures and user defined functions. Requires thorough understanding of best practices for database maintenance, including index and file management, backups, failure recovery, database defragmentation, documentation. Ability to analyze disk space requirements and hardware utilization, automate error notification. Ability to perform SQL query optimization. This person will support development staff by tuning SQL queries for maximum performance. Must know query optimization tools, query plan analysis, techniques for finding inefficient queries. Knowledge of MDX language a plus. Job requires willingness to work occasional late night, holiday and weekend shifts if needed for scheduled database maintenance. Must be a self starter and an effective problem solver.
Min five years of directly related experience e xperience with: SQL database administration and maintenance. Windows system administration and troubleshooting. Computing hardware equipment configuration and maintenance, especially RAID arrays. Experience supporting development, test and production database environments. Minimum four years experience administering replicated Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005 databases in a distributed production environment. Minimum six years of production DBA experience overall, more preferred(additional years may be on other large database systems, such as Oracle, Sybase or DB2). Needs thorough experience with Microsoft environment and tools, such as Microsoft Operations Manager, Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Profiler, and Performance Monitor. Experience with Visual Studio, Visual Source Safe, Microsoft Analysis Services, and ProClarity very desirable. Proven ability to work with large (50 GB+ in size) databases: includes knowledge of partitioned data storage, techniques for optimal loading of large data sets, and how large data volume affects replication in SQL Server environment. Experience with database administration and documentation tools. Experience with query planning and optimization tools. Experience with database auditing techniques. Experience with DTS packages and jobs.
EDUCATION: B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline, or an A.A. degree or equivalent and an additional 2-3 years relevant experience.
