This position can be located in Ann Arbor, MI. or Greenwood Village, CO. This is a terrific opportunity to work as a member of our Consumer Initiative software development team. Thomson Reuters’ Consumer Initiative team is responsible for designing, developing, marketing and selling a new suite of decision support tools to help consumers become healthier and make informed (and cost-effective) healthcare decisions. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with other team members to understand consumer application requirements, and then to technically lead the design, development, and testing of applications that support this initiative. Responsibilities: Lead the overall design and implementation of entire subsystems and major areas of an application. Lead the detailed design, coding and testing of software modules with limited direction from Development Manager. Responsible for writing technical specifications, generating innovative approaches and solutions to problems. Estimate, plan, and prioritize development work, track and report on task progress, meet predetermined schedules and mandated deadlines and identify required adjustments. Research and recommend tools for implementation within project team. Guide, direct and teach less-experienced staff members in a mentor-type relationship. Produce well-written technical documentation. Manage and maintain the team’s technical development environment. Represent the project team and company externally at a technical level. Work independently on complex tasks. Manage multiple and competing priorities. Work within a structured development environment that includes version control, automated united testing, automated builds, design and code reviews, following a defined product development process. Provide input regarding performance reviews, promotions and developmental opportunities for existing staff May lead small cross-functional project efforts May direct activities of 1or 2 team members Expert technical knowledge of software development methodologies, design, implementation and testing 7+ years experience in commercial software development (Java and RDBMS technologies) 5+ years experience with Java technologies 2+ years Experience with Oracle development Understand the use of technology and how its implementation affects project goals Strong problem solving and analytical skills Must be able to mentor others, with strong leadership and project management skills Ability to work independently in a team environment, taking on and completing high-level tasks on time and with very little supervision Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills BS in Computer Science or related technical field Desired Qualifications and/or Experience: Experience with Star database schemas (design, data loading, accessing) Experience with ROLAP systems/technologies Experience with ETL tools including DataStage Experience with Intelligence tools such as COGNOS Experience with scripting languages such as Groovy, Ruby, or Perl Experience with web service design and development in a Service Oriented Architecture Experience designing and implementing processes that perform complex data manipulation and calculations on large volumes of health care claims The H-1B visa cap has been fulfilled for fiscal year 2008 which begins October 1, 2007 and therefore Thomson Reuters is unable to sponsor new (first-time) H-1B visas.
