The Service Line Director, Neonatology provides focused planning, development, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the Neonatology Service Line. The Director is responsible for business development and the coordination and delivery of resources necessary for the service line to be conducted in a manner responsive to the needs of Medical Staff and patients. The Director works primarily with the Chief of Neonatology, the Medical Director of Neonatology, and the other Neonatologists on staff. Responsibilities include strategic planning, financial management, business development, and fostering cooperation and partnership among all key stakeholders for the service line. The Director represents the service line in key hospital decisions and serves as the primary administrative liaison for the service line. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and communicates a clear vision of the Neonatology Service line to constituents at all levels within and outside the organization.
Develops, evaluates, and adjusts as necessary a strategic plan that will clarify steps for implementing the vision and reflects an understanding of the Neonatology Service Line market including threats, opportunities and industry trends in positioning the service line for success.
Translates system and hospital level business tactics into goals at service line level.
Provides strong leadership and direction in establishing center of excellence for Neonatology Services. Leads and facilitates the effort to integrate all aspects of Neonatology into a single service line.
Partners with operational leaders to coordinate resources to meet the needs of general surgery patients, their families, and physicians and to meet departmental goals while directing, coordinating, and developing policies, procedures, and processes for the Neonatology Service Line.
Builds strong relationships that create coalitions across department and institution lines.
Develops strong physician/service line director relationships and partnerships to facilitate evidence-based clinical program quality management.
Fosters a strong service culture based on family-centered care principles.
Identifies and develops new business through market analysis and business planning in accordance with Hospital objectives and strategic plans.
Accepts responsibility for a professional and collegial relationship with Medical Staff and ancillary departments.
Prepares and administers, in partnership with operational leadership, an annual expense budget, capital request budget, and human resource utilization plan for the Neonatology Service Line.
Partners with Chief Medical Officer to direct appropriate quality monitoring and evaluation activities and works to ensure that hospital, JCAHO, and other quality and regulatory standards are met.
Works to ensure optimal family-centered care experience for patients within the service line.
Serves as primary administrative liaison/partner with Pediatric Surgery medical staff for physician related pediatric general surgery issues.
Hires, develops, and retains a competent, productive, quality conscious and customer service focused staff.
EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration, or related field required. Master’s degree in health/hospital administration, business administration, or related field or other evidence of substantial business knowledge and experience preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist in the health care industry, particularly related to physicians, medical schools, and medical education. These include, but are not limited to, knowledge of strategic and operational planning, health care economics, personnel administration, federal, state, and local laws, financial management and trends in the health care industry.
At least 5 years of progressive experience in managing functions and departments in a clinical or clinical education environment with a knowledge of work flows and systems.
Three or more years of direct management responsibility, including budget responsibility is preferred.
Specific experience with neuroscience services, practice management, practice management systems, financial management, and clinical management systems is preferred.
