This position may be located in Ann Arbor, MI or Greenwood Village, CO. This is a terrific opportunity to work as a member of our Consumer Initiative software development team. Thomson Reuters' Consumer Initiative team is responsible for designing, developing, marketing and selling a new suite of decision support tools to help consumers become healthier and make informed (and cost-effective) healthcare decisions. The Software Engineer III will work closely with other team members to understand consumer application requirements, and then to design, develop, and test applications that support this initiative. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Responsible for the overall design and implementation of major portions of a subsystem/application Provide detailed design, coding and testing of software modules with limited direction from Development Manager Responsible for writing large sections of technical specifications, generating innovative approaches and solutions to problems Work within a structured development environment that includes version control, automated united testing, automated builds, design and code reviews. Follow a defined product development process Estimate, plan, and prioritize development work within domain, track and report on task progress, meet predetermined schedules and mandated deadlines and identify required adjustments Work independently on complex tasks Guide, direct and teach less-experienced staff members in a mentor-type relationship Manage multiple and competing priorities Produce well-written technical documentationRequirements: 5+ years writing commercial software applications 3+ years experience with Java technologies Excellent design, code and testing skills Experience with relational technologies including Oracle Strong problem solving and analytical skills Ability to work independently or as a member of a team Must possess strong mentoring skills, and excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills BS in Computer Science or related technical field preferred Desired Qualifications and/or Experience: Familiarity with data warehousing and star schema databases Experience with ROLAP systems/technologies Experience with ETL tools including DataStage Experience with Intelligence tools such as COGNOS Experience with scripting languages such as Groovy, Ruby, or Perl Experience with XML and Web Services design and development in a Service Orientated Architecture Experience with Healthcare and/or Consumer application development The H-1B visa cap has been fulfilled for fiscal year 2008 which begins October 1, 2007 and therefore Thomson Reuters is unable to sponsor new (first-time) H-1B visas.
